WEEK #8 RESULTS – THE STREAK CONTINUES FOR JUSTIN, NOT FOR TEAM J

Justin’s unbeaten streak is up to 21, while Team Jacquie loses a close one and is knocked out of the top spot in the standings…

The excitement was palpable at Kinsmen last night with a couple of streaks on the line in the first game. Justin’s unbeaten streak was at 19 while Team Jacquie was riding a 4 game winning streak. More than likely 1 streak would end tonight. Team Lia started quickly, scoring early but Team Jacquie set the tone for the rest of the game by quickly replying to tie it up. The rest of the game was back and forth, the teams exchanging goals but never allowing the score differential to get more than a single marker. Team Jacquie led by 1 at the end of the 1st,  3-2. Both teams scored 3 in the 2nd and Team Jacquie still led by 1 at the end of 2nd. In the 3rd, goals were exchanged until late in the period when Team Lia was able to score a couple of goals back to back to take the lead. Team Jacquie pressed hard for the last 2 minutes but Justin stopped everything directed at the net and made sure that his unbeaten streak increased to 20. Final score Team Lia 9 – Team Jacquie 8. Probably the fastest, most competitive game we have seen this year, lots of running and lots of high speed ball movement. It’s why we play the game. Some post game grumbling about needing test samples regarding MarkC’s 2 goals – where was this scoring touch on the weekend? Very suspicious!

The 2nd game started out much like the 1st. Back and forth play, good defense and good goal-tending. Teams were tied at 2 at the end of the 1st and after 3 goals each, still tied, 5-5 at the end of the 2nd. In the 3rd Justin stopped everything directed at him while Team Blair got scoring from unexpected sources with RichM and DevonR scoring a couple of goals each on the way to a 5 goal period and an eventual Team Blair 10-5 victory over Team Dirka. Again fast play, good ball movement and an impressive level of play.

Good turnouts for all teams on the longest day of the year and the halfway point in the LMHLL season. At the turn, Team Blair holds a slim 1 point lead on Team Jacquie while Team Lia and Team Dirka are not far behind. Justin’s unbeaten streak is at 21 – which team will break the streak or can Justin go the entire season without a loss – the pressure mounts! Hopefully the good turnouts and high level of play will continue through the dog days of summer as we move closer to the 2017 playoffs.
